Centennial Renovation and Expansion

Expand. Enhance. Educate.

The Tampa Museum of Art’s transformative expansion plan for its downtown Tampa campus will add a crystalline, four-story structure to the waterfront, significantly enhancing the visitor experience and expanding the Museum’s education and event spaces.

When completed in 2024, the expansion will include a site redevelopment and add approximately 51,000 square feet of new space along the Hillsborough River to its 25,000 square foot renovation currently underway to double its exhibition spaces and triple its education spaces.

Expanded Exhibition and Collection Spaces

Renovations will free up space for enhanced exhibition gallery spaces, state-of-the-art storage and maintenance methods, and an expanded gallery for multimedia projections and more kinetic exhibitions.

Growing With The Community

The expansion will include constructing a new four-story building that connects to the existing museum building and a site redevelopment of the public areas around Tampa’s Riverwalk that will improve the cultural experience for residents and visitors to this region.

Enhanced Visitor Experience

The transparency of the new spaces allows the museum to frame the views of the art and the views of the city to introduce a different kind of museum that doesn’t conceal itself behind walled-off spaces.

Expanding Our Education Space

By adding a new education wing, including four classrooms, a lobby, orientation spaces, and a secure entrance, the Museum to quadruple the number of students it serves per year and accommodate growing community partnerships.

Project Scope

New York-based WEISS/MANFREDI Architecture/Landscape/Urbanism is designing the Tampa Museum of Art’s Centennial Renovation and Expansion project.

WEISS/MANFREDI Architecture/Landscape/Urbanism is a multidisciplinary design practice based in New York City. Founded by Marion Weiss and Michael Manfredi, the firm is known for the dynamic integration of architecture, art, infrastructure, and landscape design. Their work is noted for the strategic engagement of architecture and site and recognizes the critical dialogue between enclosed and open spaces, between new and existing structures, and between building and city.
